Real Madrid's Key Players Return for Champions League Opener
Real Madrid received a timely boost on Sunday as Aurelien Tchouameni, Thiago Pitarch and Endrick all returned to group training, racing against the clock to be available for Tuesday’s Champions League opener against Inter Milan.
The sight of the three joining full sessions again was welcome, but it comes with a caveat. All of them have missed more than a month of pre-season work. Match rhythm? Lacking. Physical sharpness? Still a work in progress. A place in José Mourinho’s starting XI at the San Siro looks distant for now.
The problems do not end there for Madrid. Eduardo Camavinga, Arda Güler and Bernardo Silva are all suspended for the European debut, stripping Mourinho of three key pieces and forcing a rethink in the heart of his team. The coach, already under scrutiny after a frustrating defeat to Betis, now has to redraw his entire midfield structure on the fly.
That is where Tchouameni, Pitarch and Endrick come in. Over the next few days, their workload will be carefully managed as they try to build conditioning, find their touch and absorb the finer details of Mourinho’s system. Even if they do not start against Inter, their presence on the bench could offer vital options.
Madrid’s Champions League campaign has not even kicked off yet, and already the margins are tight, the decisions unforgiving. How quickly this returning trio can close the gap between training ground and match tempo may say a lot about where this European journey is heading.
