Porto and Roma Negotiation Stalemate over Rodrigo Mora

Porto and Roma have hit a wall over Rodrigo Mora – and it is all about the numbers.

According to Portuguese outlet Ojogo, Porto abruptly cut off talks yesterday morning after Roma refused to accept the conditions set by the Portuguese club for the highly rated youngster’s buy clause. The figures on the table are eye-watering for a player yet to prove himself at the very top level: a €10 million loan fee, a €40 million purchase option, clauses that could quickly turn that option into an obligation, performance-related bonuses, and a percentage of any future sale.

Roma pushed back. Hard.

The Giallorossi consider the package excessive and have so far rejected Porto’s demands, creating a tense stand-off between the clubs. The structure of the deal, not just the headline price, is at the heart of the dispute, with the Italian side wary of being locked into a de facto obligation under conditions they do not fully control.

Jorge Mendes has stepped in as mediator, trying to keep the move alive, but there were no direct contacts between Porto and Roma yesterday. For now, the negotiation is frozen rather than dead.

That leaves Roma facing a clear fork in the road: either accept Porto’s framework or return with an improved proposal on the obligation to buy that can convince the Dragoes to reopen the dialogue.
