Missing Former QPR Midfielder Ákos Buzsáky
Hungarian police are searching for former Queens Park Rangers midfielder Ákos Buzsáky, who has been missing for more than a week.
The 44-year-old, once a familiar figure in English football, was officially listed as missing on August 18, according to police records cited by The Sun. Since then, authorities in Hungary have been trying to trace his whereabouts.
Former QPR favourite missing
Buzsáky, a creative midfielder with a fierce right foot, built his reputation in England with Plymouth Argyle before moving to QPR, where he became a fan favourite in the late 2000s. He featured in the Premier League during the 2011/12 season, scoring twice in the top flight.
He later dropped down the divisions to join Portsmouth in League One, where he brought the curtain down on his professional career in 2013.
On the international stage, Buzsáky represented Hungary, adding a respected national profile to his club exploits.
Life after football in Greece
After retiring, he stepped away from the spotlight and into a very different world. Reports indicate Buzsáky reinvented himself as a construction contractor, spending long stretches of time in Greece for work. According to his family, he had spent almost the entire past year there.
That lifestyle, moving between countries and sites, now forms part of the backdrop to his disappearance.
Family caught off guard
While police have been searching since mid-August, Buzsáky’s father, Ákos Buzsáky Sr., said he had no idea a formal investigation was under way until he was contacted by Hungarian outlet Blikk.
“I didn't know that the police were also looking for my son. He basically spends a lot of time in Greece, where he works as a construction contractor. He spent almost the entire last year there,” he said.
Reports in Hungary state that Buzsáky no longer lives with the mother of his two daughters. His own mother has also been actively searching for him in recent days and is believed to be the family member who first alerted authorities and filed the missing person report.
For now, there is no official word on where he might be or what prompted the alarm, only a growing concern around a player once cheered from the stands in London and Plymouth, now the subject of a very different kind of search.
