Mikey Moore Close to Cologne Loan as Spurs Clear Transfer Logjam
The path is finally opening for Mikey Moore to leave Tottenham – and 1. FC Cologne are ready to pounce.
According to Bild, a loan deal for the 19-year-old is close, with a basic agreement with the player in place for some time. The last hurdle sat in the dugout in north London. Roberto De Zerbi had been reluctant to sign off on the move.
That stance has shifted. The Spurs coach has now given the green light to a loan, a decision shaped by a rapidly changing squad picture at the Premier League club.
Spurs’ transfer dominoes start to fall
De Zerbi had been counting on Moore in the early weeks of the season. The teenager even started Saturday’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford in Tottenham’s Premier League opener, a sign of how stretched the squad was.
But that strain should ease soon. English outlets report in unison that Spurs have agreed a double deal with Manchester City for Savinho and Omar Marmoush, with a combined fee of around €185 million. Under Pep Guardiola’s successor Enzo Maresca, both players have barely featured for City. In north London, they are expected to play a far more central role.
Once that attacking reinforcement lands, Moore becomes movable. The timing suits Cologne perfectly.
De Zerbi’s demand – and Moore’s learning curve
Behind closed doors, De Zerbi had been pushing hard for fresh faces, making it clear he needed reinforcements urgently. His frustration seeped into public view after the Brentford loss, when he highlighted Moore’s struggles in Spurs’ chaotic pressing game.
“We were not ready to win the duels. We made a lot of mistakes in the pressing with Mikey Moore,” he said, bluntly underlining how much work still lies ahead for the youngster at Premier League level.
A loan, then, is not a punishment but a pathway. Cologne can offer minutes, responsibility and a league that still tests you physically and tactically.
The Cologne plan: Kaminski’s heir on the right
In Cologne, the role is already mapped out. Moore is expected to step into the vacancy left by Jakub Kaminski on the right flank after the Pole’s move to Benfica. He would operate as the right-sided winger, mirroring the influence of Said El Mala on the opposite side.
El Mala recently surprised many by extending his contract with the Billy Goats. Securing Moore would give Cologne a young, dynamic pair of wide men to build around – a clear upgrade on the uncertainty that followed Kaminski’s departure. The club had previously failed to reach an agreement with BVB and others for alternatives. Moore is the solution they have pushed towards instead.
Rangers grounding, Bundesliga stage
Moore does not arrive as an unknown quantity. Last season he spent the campaign on loan at Rangers, making 47 appearances in all competitions. He scored seven goals and registered four assists – solid numbers for a teenager adapting to the demands of senior football and the pressure cooker of Glasgow.
Those figures hint at end product, but also at durability. Moore played, and played often.
Cologne now want to tap into that foundation. If the final details fall into place, the Bundesliga will be his next test – and a chance to prove that De Zerbi’s tough words in August were just the start of a sharper, more complete winger.
