Middlesbrough Signs Defender Phillips from Tottenham
Middlesbrough have landed another statement signing, confirming the arrival of highly rated defender Phillips from Tottenham Hotspur on a five-year deal at the Riverside.

“I got some great experience at a young age with Blackburn. I then experienced what it's like to be a Premier League player at Tottenham,” he told Middlesbrough’s club website. “I think I've developed myself into a good player during my loans, but there's more to come from me. I'm very excited to be here. Hopefully we can achieve great things together this season.”
Those “loans” are doing a lot of work in that sentence. Phillips has already amassed 119 senior appearances, 83 of them for Stoke City across two separate spells. He became a regular there, a dependable presence in a league that rarely grants young defenders much mercy.
Before that, he had a short stint at Plymouth Argyle after joining them in January 2024, another step in a career that has rarely paused for breath.
