Napoli step up as Chelsea clear the decks
Napoli are exploring a permanent deal for Guiu, who scored three goals in 16 appearances across all competitions in his first season at Stamford Bridge. They see an opportunity in a player Chelsea signed from Barcelona for £5million in 2024 and now value at around £25m, despite his limited minutes.
The Serie A side are already deep in business with Chelsea. Benoit Badiashile is joining Napoli on an initial season-long loan, and the Italians have also looked at Nicolas Jackson. That interest has cooled, though, once Chelsea’s £65m valuation became clear.
Guiu’s situation is very different. A La Masia product, he arrived in London as one for the future, but the future has been pushed elsewhere. New head coach Xabi Alonso has not included him in his first-team plans for this season, and Guiu was not even given a squad number ahead of Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Fulham on Monday night. The message is blunt.

Delap’s market is just as busy. Everton, Nottingham Forest and former club Ipswich are all interested in the 23-year-old, while Serie A side Como are also in the mix after already taking Trevoh Chalobah from Chelsea earlier in the summer.
Chelsea, though, are driving a hard bargain. Delap scored only two goals in all competitions last season, yet the club have set a £50m asking price as they look to cash in on the £30m they paid to beat Manchester United to his signature last year. Ipswich, having inserted a sell-on clause into that deal, are watching developments closely.

All of this movement underlines one thing: Chelsea’s attack is being built around Joao Pedro.
The Brazilian, signed from Brighton last summer, has impressed enough to be locked in as Alonso’s first-choice striker for the new campaign. His performances have already earned him a new long-term contract running until 2034, complete with a pay rise and improved terms.
As Joao Pedro settles in as the focal point, Guiu stands at a crossroads. With Napoli and others circling, the next decision he makes will define whether his Chelsea stint becomes a brief detour or just the first chapter in a career that truly takes off somewhere else.
