Manchester United Scouts Discover Kaua Elias: A Top-Level Striker
Manchester United’s summer rebuild is not finished yet, and the next piece of business may have been unearthed on a Monday night in Lviv.
There, in a 5-1 dismantling of Kudrivka, 20-year-old Shakhtar Donetsk forward Kaua Elias produced the kind of performance that makes recruitment departments sit up. A perfect hat-trick – left foot, right foot, header – in front of representatives from some of Europe’s heaviest hitters, including United and Arsenal.
For a player still at the very start of his European career, the timing could hardly have been sharper.
United scouts impressed by ‘top-level’ potential
According to reports, United’s scouting team were in Ukraine with a clear brief: watch Elias closely, test previous assessments, and decide whether he fits the profile for Old Trafford’s next centre-forward.
The verdict was emphatic. Internal reports are said to describe the Brazilian as having the “potential to develop into a top-level centre-forward” and as “highly compatible with United’s press-heavy, fast-transition system.”
That matters. United’s recruitment has shifted towards forwards who can trigger the press, attack space quickly and link play, not just finish chances. Elias, who joined Shakhtar from Fluminense in 2025, appears to tick those boxes.
Shakhtar value him at around £30million. With an official bid now expected from United, that price is no longer theoretical.
Numbers that hint at an upward curve
Elias’ raw numbers are not yet those of a finished article, but they are promising for a 20-year-old adjusting to European football. He has scored 12 goals and registered three assists in 39 appearances for Shakhtar, a return that hints at steady progression rather than a one-off explosion.
The hat-trick against Kudrivka felt like a statement. Not just for the scouts in attendance, but for the clubs who have been tracking him from a distance.
And there are several.
Arsenal, Milan and Porto in the frame
United are not alone in their admiration. Arsenal have been monitoring Elias for several weeks, keeping tabs as he settles in at Shakhtar and grows into a regular attacking threat. The Gunners’ interest adds a Premier League edge to the chase.
On the continent, AC Milan and Porto are also in the conversation. Rossoneri executives are understood to be weighing up a move, while Elias’ representatives have already received what have been described as “concrete signals” from multiple clubs.
The message from the player’s camp is simple enough: he is open to a move to one of Europe’s elite leagues. The question is who moves first, and how hard.
A gap in United’s forward line
At Old Trafford, the need is clear. Michael Carrick heads towards the new season with only Benjamin Sesko as a recognised out-and-out centre-forward in the senior squad. That is a thin platform for a club with United’s ambitions.
Joshua Zirkzee is expected to depart, with Juventus pushing to take the Dutchman to Serie A. If that deal progresses as anticipated, the gap through the middle becomes even more pronounced.
United have acted decisively in midfield, bringing in Andrey Santos and Youri Tielemans to reshape the engine room. They are also exploring options for a third midfielder and a full-back before the window closes.
But the spine of any serious side still leans heavily on its No. 9. That is where Elias comes into sharp focus.
A window still wide open
Altay Bayindir’s loan move to Celta Vigo, which includes a £3.5m option to buy, has already nudged United’s squad in a new direction this week. More exits and arrivals are expected before the deadline.
The forward position, though, feels pivotal. United’s scouts have done their work, the reports are in, and the price is on the table.
Now the club must decide: is Kaua Elias the young striker they are willing to back as the next centre-forward project at Old Trafford – or will someone else steal in and take him first?
