Manchester United Secure £70m Deal for Carlos Baleba
Manchester United have pushed their summer rebuild up another gear, agreeing a deal worth up to £70m for Brighton midfielder Carlos Baleba.
A breakthrough in talks came on Friday evening, clearing the way for the 22-year-old to undergo a medical ahead of his move to Old Trafford. Once the final details are completed, United will add one of the Premier League’s most highly regarded young midfielders to an engine room already under renovation.
The structure of the agreement is significant. United will pay an initial £65m, with a further £5m tied to achievable add-ons, while Brighton have secured a sell-on clause as part of the package. For a club that has built its model on buying smart and selling high, Brighton have again ensured they remain invested in Baleba’s future value.
This move marks a decisive shift from United. After bringing in Andrey Santos from Chelsea and Youri Tielemans from Aston Villa earlier in the window, the club have chosen not to stop at incremental change. They have doubled down, targeting Baleba to add power, legs and depth to a midfield that has too often looked short across a long season.
The Cameroon international now stands on the brink of the biggest step of his career, with United betting heavily that he can grow into a long-term pillar of their next era.
