Old Trafford on edge
The warning signs are already there. The last time United lost back-to-back games at Old Trafford, they didn’t stop at two. Under Rúben Amorim in December 2024, they crashed to three straight home defeats against Nottingham Forest, Bournemouth and Newcastle.

Team news: key absences on both sides
Carrick’s main concern is at left-back. Luke Shaw has missed the last two fixtures, against Sabah and City, with an apparent injury, and remains a doubt for Brighton. His availability could shape the entire defensive approach.
Amad, Carlos Baleba, Matthijs de Ligt and Manuel Ugarte are all set to miss out, each at different stages of recovery. De Ligt, though, is edging closer, having returned to training on grass at Carrington, a significant step in a long rehabilitation that United hope will soon bolster a fragile back line.
Brighton have problems of their own despite their demolition of Coventry. Evan Ferguson, Jack Hinshelwood, Yankuba Minteh, Kaoru Mitoma, Stefanos Tzimas, Mats Wieffer and Zadok Yohanna could all be sidelined, forcing the visitors to lean on depth and flexibility once again.
