Manchester City Agree £85.6m Deal for Ayyoub Bouaddi

Manchester City have struck an agreement in principle worth 100m euros (£85.6m) to sign Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi, as the Premier League champions continue a ruthless rebuild of their engine room.

BBC Sport revealed earlier in the week that talks between the clubs were at an advanced stage. Those negotiations have now produced a deal for the Morocco international to join Enzo Maresca’s side, with Lille accepting an initial £81.4m fee, plus a further £4.2m in performance-related add-ons.

It is a staggering outlay for a teenager, but it fits the pattern of City’s summer. They have torn up and reassembled their midfield in a single window.

Departures

Rodri has gone to Barcelona in a £65m move. Tijjani Reijnders has departed for Al-Qadsiah in Saudi Arabia for £52m. Two pillars of control, gone. The response from the Etihad hierarchy has been clear: spend big, and spend quickly, in the centre of the pitch.

Bouaddi's Move

Bouaddi is the latest piece. A long courtship now looks set to end with a move to England once the final formalities are completed.

City’s midfield revamp is already well under way. They have paid £116m to bring England international Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest, a transfer that underlined both their financial muscle and their determination to refresh the squad for Maresca’s first season in charge.

The recruitment drive is not finished. City remain keen on Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez, although whether they can push that deal over the line is still uncertain, with no agreement yet in place.

For now, the spotlight falls on Bouaddi: 18 years old, a full international with Morocco, and about to carry a price tag that demands an immediate impact at one of the most demanding clubs in Europe.
