Manchester City Pursues Enzo Fernández Amidst Rising Price

Manchester City have not walked away from Enzo Fernández. Far from it. According to Ben Jacobs, the Premier League champions remain keen on the Chelsea midfielder and are “prepared to bid” before the window closes.

Rodri’s completed move from City to Barcelona has poured fresh fuel on a story that never quite died over the summer. City have been circling Fernández for months, weighing up whether to test Chelsea’s resolve. Now, with a gaping hole in the heart of their midfield, interest has hardened into intent.

The problem is the price. And it’s getting worse by the day.

Chelsea had already slapped a £120m valuation on the Argentina international, a figure that cooled City’s early advances. The Blues even briefed that last Friday was a “deadline” for any offers, a line in the sand designed to give them time to react if they lost a key player.

That deadline has come and gone. The stance has not softened.

If anything, it has strengthened.

Chelsea know the dynamics have shifted. Sell Fernández now and they are the ones racing the clock, forced into the same market City are trying to exploit. Any replacement would come at a premium. They will expect City to absorb that pain.

So while City are readying a move, they are stepping into a negotiation where Chelsea hold every lever. The London club will listen to “massive” offers, but with their own margin for error shrinking, the £120m starting point is no longer likely to be enough.

City, for their part, are looking to bring in two midfielders before the window shuts. Fernández sits near the top of that list, a ready-made, elite option who can dictate games at the highest level. But even a club with City’s resources has limits, especially when the selling side knows they are under pressure.

The stand-off is clear: City need a statement signing in midfield; Chelsea will only sell if the fee itself becomes a statement.

Something has to give. And as the clock ticks towards deadline day, this has all the ingredients for one of the window’s loudest late fireworks.
