Maika Hamano walks into this Barclays Women’s Super League season looking less like a prospect and more like a problem for opposition defences.

Chelsea’s 22-year-old midfielder is priced at just £5.0m in Fantasy, yet carries the profile of a player ready to explode. It sits neatly alongside another major accolade: the Golden Ball at the FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in 2022, a tournament that announced her as one of the brightest young players in the game.

Now she’s back at Chelsea, and she hasn’t eased her way in.

In pre-season, Hamano marked her return by scoring in a 7-0 win over Auckland FC, a clean, confident finish that hinted at a player carrying momentum rather than searching for it. Give her trust, give her minutes, and she looks ready to turn promise into production over a full BWSL campaign.

For Fantasy managers, that’s where the intrigue spikes. At £5.0m, Hamano sits in the bargain bracket, but her ceiling looks anything but cheap. She banked 42 points last season despite limited league involvement; a bigger role in 2026/27, in an expanded campaign, puts that total firmly in range to be beaten – and potentially by some distance.
