Liverpool Targets Sarr After Minteh Pursuit Fails

Liverpool have turned sharply towards Crystal Palace winger Sarr, lodging a £50 million bid as their pursuit of Minteh collapses, according to the Mirror.

Two offers for Minteh were knocked back, both well short of Brighton’s firm £70m valuation. With the window closing on Monday and only five days left to manoeuvre, Liverpool have stopped waiting and started acting.

They have gone for Sarr. And he wants it.

The 28-year-old, who joined Palace two years ago, is described as very keen on a switch to Anfield, a move that would drop him straight into the heart of a rebuild in Liverpool’s forward line.

This is not a luxury signing. It is necessity.

The club have been rocked by the tragic death of Diogo Jota and then stripped further by the exits of Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah. Three wide forwards gone. A defining part of Liverpool’s identity ripped out in a matter of months. No wonder wide attackers sit at the very top of the shopping list.

But prising Sarr away from Selhurst Park will not be simple.

Foot Mercato report that Al-Hilal and Galatasaray are both firmly in the race. Galatasaray are said to be in advanced talks, pushing hard to bring him to Istanbul. Al-Hilal, armed with Saudi spending power, are tracking developments and ready to pounce if the opportunity opens.

Liverpool are not bidding in a vacuum. They are walking into a full-scale auction.

Sarr’s numbers explain why.

Last season he made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 21 goals and adding two assists as Palace went all the way in Europe, lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League. He delivered on the biggest stages for club and country, then carried that form into the summer.

At the World Cup, he hit four goals before Senegal’s run ended against Belgium in the round of 32. It was the kind of tournament that shifts a player’s market from interesting to urgent.

Liverpool manager Iraola has not hidden how urgent this feels.

With Tottenham and Manchester City both circling Cody Gakpo, the Spaniard knows his attacking options could thin out even more before the window shuts. He has been clear about the state of his squad and the need for reinforcements that arrive now, not in theory.

“Some deals you have to wait until the end. But the end is the important picture, the one we will have on September 1, because it is true that we are still quite thin,” he told Sky Sports, underlining the tension between planning and reality.

He admitted he wanted every position doubled with top-level players before the season kicked off. That ideal has already slipped away. The market has dictated something different, and Iraola has had to adapt on the fly.
