Liverpool Faces Crisis in Mbaye Transfer as Time Runs Out

Liverpool’s pursuit of PSG forward Mbaye has hit a serious snag at the worst possible moment, with the transfer window ticking towards its final days and the club still searching for a headline attacking signing.

According to L’Equipe, the Senegalese forward has grown weary of the drawn-out saga and is now ready to listen to other offers. He is said to feel Liverpool have allowed the process to drag on far too long, and that frustration has opened the door for rival clubs to step in.

At the heart of the stalemate lies money. A lot of it.

Liverpool and PSG remain separated by a sizeable gap in valuation, with reports of a €20 million difference between the Reds’ offer and the French champions’ demands for the Senegal international. Until that gulf closes, the deal stays stuck in neutral.

Talks between the clubs are still moving, but slowly. The danger for Liverpool is that Mbaye’s irritation with the length of negotiations could become more damaging than PSG’s hardline stance. Inside the Paris dressing room, he is not alone in his annoyance; team-mate Bradley Barcola is also understood to have voiced his own, if more minor, concerns over the delays surrounding potential exits.

For Liverpool, the timing could hardly be worse.

Andoni Iraola walked into this at Anfield after Arne Slot was sacked following a dismal 2025-26 campaign. Liverpool tried to make that kind of statement with a €50 million bid for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh, only to be flatly rejected. At the same time, Cody Gakpo is being heavily linked with a move to Tottenham Hotspur, raising the prospect of yet another attacking option walking away.

Strip away the names and the numbers and the picture is stark. If Liverpool fail to land Mbaye, Barcola or Minteh, Iraola could be left with one of the thinnest winger groups in the Premier League. That is a brutal reality for a club that built its modern identity on relentless, high-octane wide forwards.

The clock is not on their side. Less than ten days remain in the transfer window, and Mbaye’s discontent has turned what once looked like a straightforward chase into a race against time and rival bidders.

Liverpool know what is at stake. Iraola’s reign begins on Sunday with a daunting trip to St James’ Park to face Newcastle in the opening game of the 2026-27 Premier League season.
