Liverpool Eye January Move for Lamine Camara Amid Competition

Liverpool are weighing up a January move for Monaco midfielder Lamine Camara, with a deal now viewed as a “real possibility” – but it will come at a higher price and amid fierce Premier League competition for another target in a different position.

Camara back on the market – at a premium

Camara’s name has not gone away since a dramatic deadline day collapse saw his proposed switch to Chelsea fall apart in the final hours of the summer window.

The 22-year-old held lengthy talks with Chelsea over his role and future at Stamford Bridge and, according to reports, gave the London club the green light to complete the transfer. Monaco then pulled the plug late on, leaving Chelsea empty-handed and Camara still in Ligue 1.

Chelsea’s interest has not cooled, but the landscape has shifted. Any club returning for Camara in January is now expected to pay closer to €70m (£60m, $81m), rather than the €55m (£47m, $63m) package Chelsea had initially agreed.

That has not stopped Liverpool from moving into position.

Football Insider report that Liverpool have already “held talks” over a potential deal for the Monaco midfielder. Speaking to the outlet, Mick Brown revealed that Camara is firmly on the radar at Anfield.

“Lamine Camara is a name that has been discussed behind the scenes,” Brown said.

“Liverpool will be keeping an eye on how he gets on for Monaco, but there is definitely a deal to be done as we saw when he nearly joined Chelsea.

“His agent has been very outspoken about trying to get him a move, so I expect Liverpool will have held talks with him about the possibility of signing him in January.”

A move that slipped away from Chelsea on deadline day could yet be revived – only this time with Liverpool driving the negotiations.

While Liverpool explore midfield reinforcements, the club are also being tipped as contenders in a separate transfer battle at left-back, where Crystal Palace’s Tyrick Mitchell is attracting serious attention.

Mitchell has already been linked with Manchester United, and Brown believes Liverpool belong in the same conversation for one of the Premier League’s most consistent full-backs.

“Man United aren’t going to be the only club interested in signing Mitchell,” Brown said.

“For any club looking for a left-back in the Premier League, there are not many options who come up with such consistent performances as Mitchell has for Crystal Palace.

“He impresses every single week, gets on with his job, he’s terrific defensively and he’s improved the attacking side of his game as well, he’s a top, top player.”

That reliability is exactly what Liverpool are thought to be weighing up. Milos Kerkez has faced questions over his form, while Kostas Tsimikas is out of contract at the end of the season and remains on the fringes of the side, leaving Andoni Iraola with a potential decision to make in that area of the pitch.

“So when you look at those top clubs, you’ve got Liverpool where Milos Kerkez has been questioned a bit and maybe isn’t as consistent as they’d like him to be,” Brown added.

“Then you’ve got Chelsea, who are always going to be interested in this type of deal where they can bring a quality player in without having to spend big.

“Either of those clubs could make a move for Mitchell, because as I say, he will tick a number of boxes for them and could be a very good addition.”
