Liverpool Boosted in Ibrahim Mbaye Pursuit After Dortmund's Major Offer

Liverpool’s pursuit of Ibrahim Mbaye has just been handed a sizeable boost – thanks to a record-breaking offer from Borussia Dortmund for someone else entirely.

The Premier League club are pushing to bring the Paris Saint-Germain teenager to Anfield, convinced the winger has the ceiling to grow into a genuine top-level star. Within Liverpool, Mbaye is viewed as the kind of talent who could one day take on elements of Mohamed Salah’s mantle on the right flank, especially given the natural understanding he is expected to form with fellow youngster Rio Ngumoha.

Mbaye is already attracting serious attention across Europe. Borussia Dortmund, never shy of backing a high-upside prospect, have been tracking the Senegal youngster closely and were considered one of Liverpool’s main rivals for his signature.

But the landscape is shifting.

Dortmund go all-in on El Mala

Dortmund’s recruitment team have identified Said El Mala as a priority target. The Koln teenager was arguably the second standout young player in the Bundesliga last season, behind Yan Diomande, after a superb campaign that pushed his reputation sharply upwards.

Sky Germany report that Dortmund are now making their move. Journalist Florian Plettenberg claims the club have sent a €55 million offer to Koln in an attempt to land El Mala, with the player already having agreed personal terms.

It is a landmark bid. If Koln accept, El Mala would become Dortmund’s most expensive signing in their history, underlining how determined they are to secure him.

Door opens for Liverpool

That level of investment changes the equation for Mbaye.

Should Dortmund complete the El Mala deal, it is considered highly unlikely they then table a similar major offer for Mbaye. Two huge outlays on teenage attacking talents in the same window would be an extraordinary step, even for a club as committed to youth as Dortmund.

And that is where Liverpool come in.

With Dortmund expected to focus their resources on El Mala, Liverpool would be left in a commanding position at the front of the queue for Mbaye. The path to a deal is not clear yet, but the competition may be thinning at exactly the right moment.

For a club planning for life beyond Salah’s peak years, that could prove a decisive twist in the market.
