Liverpool Prepares New Bid for Bradley Barcola as PSG's Godts Deal Changes Transfer Dynamics

Liverpool are preparing a new offer for Bradley Barcola next week, emboldened by Paris Saint-Germain’s move for Ajax winger Mika Godts and sensing a shift in a transfer saga that has dragged all summer.

Andoni Iraola has pushed for more firepower out wide, and Barcola has been near the top of Liverpool’s list for months. Talks with PSG, though, have been slow and tense. The French champions have held firm on a valuation of around £145m, a figure that has stalled negotiations and forced Liverpool to at least glance at alternative options.

They were close to doing exactly that. Reports from The Athletic last week suggested Liverpool were ready to pivot to other targets.

Then PSG signed Godts.

The 20-year-old arrives from Ajax on a five-year deal in a transfer that could rise to £47m, and his numbers from last season explain why PSG moved so aggressively: 30 goal contributions in 34 Eredivisie appearances. For Barcola, the room was already packed. He has been battling for game time behind Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and Desire Doue, and he is understood to be keen on leaving in search of regular starts. Godts’ arrival only tightens the squeeze.

The pressure finally told. Reports in France now suggest that Godts’ move will accelerate Barcola’s exit, with Liverpool increasingly confident they can drag PSG’s stance closer to their own valuation and bring the Frenchman to Anfield. A renewed bid is expected next week.

That development lands badly in north London. Arsenal have also tracked Barcola and remain admirers of his profile, but some reports indicate they are not prepared to go anywhere near PSG’s current asking price. If Liverpool are willing to push harder, the Gunners risk being left on the outside of this deal, watching a key target head to a direct rival.

The tension around Barcola’s future was visible in midweek. He stayed on the bench as an unused substitute in PSG’s 2-1 win over Aston Villa in the UEFA Super Cup, while fellow summer signing Maghnes Akliouche started instead. For a player already agitating for more minutes, that kind of night only sharpens the desire to move.
