Ligue 1 Predictions: Luke vs Bastien Showdown
The Ligue 1 season is back, and so is the GFFN predictions duel. Editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle has made the early running, while sub-editor Bastien Cheval is already playing catch-up as the 2026/27 campaign begins to take shape.
The rules are simple. Three points for an exact scoreline. Two for getting the goal difference right. One for calling the correct result. Over nine months, those margins will sting.
Right now, the scoreboard reads:
- Luke: 15
- Bastien: 8
Seven points already. That’s not a gap, it’s a warning.
Game of the week: Strasbourg v Monaco
The standout fixture arrives at the Meinau on Saturday at 16:15 (UK), where RC Strasbourg Alsace host a rampant AS Monaco side that suddenly look like title contenders under Filipe Luís.
Five games, five wins. Last weekend, Monaco walked into the Parc des Princes and beat Paris Saint-Germain. They boast the best defence in the division, drilled, disciplined and largely unchanged since Luís took charge.
But they now run into the league’s most explosive attack.
Strasbourg are flying. Six goals past ESTAC Troyes last week, a 2-1 victory over RC Lens at the Meinau the week before. This isn’t a flat-track bully. Le Racing have already shown they can hurt the heavyweights.
Something has to give.
Monaco’s preparation has taken a hit. Mamadou Coulibaly is out with a quadriceps injury, forcing Luís to break up a settled side for the first time in his reign. Strasbourg, by contrast, have continuity: no new injuries, no returns, just the same group that has been racking up goals and confidence.
Both Luke and Bastien see chaos rather than control. They’re united on a thriller:
- Luke: Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
- Bastien: Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
Luke’s Ligue 1 predictions
Luke leans into Monaco’s momentum, PSG’s response, and a few tight battles lower down the table:
- Rennes 3-1 Marseille
- Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
- Le Havre 1-0 Angers
- Auxerre 0-1 Nice
- Lorient 0-2 Toulouse
- Paris FC 2-1 Lyon
- Lille 3-0 Troyes
- Le Mans 1-1 Lens
- Brest 0-2 PSG
A heavy win for Lille, a clean sheet for Nice, and PSG expected to answer last week’s setback with authority in Brest.
Bastien’s Ligue 1 predictions
Bastien mirrors some of Luke’s calls but looks for his edge in the margins:
- Rennes 3-1 Marseille
- Strasbourg 2-2 Monaco
- Auxerre 0-1 Nice
- Le Havre 1-1 Angers
- Lorient 1-0 Toulouse
- Paris FC 2-1 Lyon
- Lille 1-0 Troyes
- Le Mans 2-1 Lens
- Brest 0-2 PSG
He backs Le Havre to share the points, trusts Lorient at home, and sees Lille winning without the fireworks Luke predicts.
Some scores match. Others split. Every divergence is a chance for a swing. With Luke already seven clear, Bastien needs this weekend to bite.
