Lazio Targets Fikayo Tomori in Potential Swap Deal with Milan
Lazio are circling around Fikayo Tomori, sensing an opening that would have looked unlikely not so long ago. According to Il Messaggero, via LaLazioSiamoNoi, the Biancocelesti have identified the Milan center-back as a prime target to bolster Gennaro Gattuso’s defense this summer.
Tomori’s stock at San Siro has dropped sharply. New Milan coach Ruben Amorim has effectively pushed the Englishman out of his plans, a decision that reflects a flat 2025/26 campaign. On paper, 33 Serie A appearances last season suggest continuity. On the pitch, though, the former Chelsea defender rarely convinced, struggling to recapture the authority he showed after arriving in 2021.
Milan have already moved on one piece of the defensive puzzle, bringing in Mario Gila from Lazio. That deal has opened a line of communication between the clubs and, crucially, left Milan more willing to listen to offers for Tomori, whose contract runs out at the end of next season.
Interest from the Premier League, once the obvious escape route, has cooled. So Tomori sits in limbo: too important to simply ignore, not trusted enough to be central to Amorim’s rebuild. Lazio, watching closely, sense an opportunity and believe they may hold the key to unlocking it.
A swap that suits everyone?
The situation on Milan’s left flank has added another layer to the story. Pervis Estupiñán’s first season in Serie A fell short of expectations, pushing Milan back into the market for a new left-back. One name on their list: Lazio’s Nuno Tavares.
That link changes the equation. With Lazio now keen on Tomori and Milan tracking Tavares, the two clubs could be edging toward a swap framework that works for both. A player-plus-cash formula would fit Lazio’s financial reality, giving Gattuso the experienced center-back he needs without forcing a major outlay.
For Milan, the logic is just as clear. Keep Tomori, and they risk watching him walk away for nothing in less than a year. Move him now, and they not only avoid that scenario but potentially solve a problem position on the left.
The pressure of the calendar will only grow as the window ticks on. Lazio need value, Milan need clarity, and Tomori needs a way back to prominence. One deal could answer all three.
