Juventus Signs Jhon Lucumí for Defensive Reinforcement
Juventus finally have their defender.
After a summer spent circling options and weighing possibilities, the Bianconeri have moved decisively, landing Bologna’s Jhon Lucumí in a deal that could reach €22 million and, they hope, anchor their back line for years.
A deal that wouldn’t die
This transfer has been brewing for months. Juventus wanted fresh legs and personality at the back; Lucumí wanted Juventus. Simple on paper, far more complicated in practice.

The numbers behind the move
Juventus will pay Bologna an initial €19.5 million, spread over three financial years. Ancillary costs can reach another €0.6 million, with a further €2 million available in bonuses if specific performance targets are met.
Lucumí has signed a four-year contract running until 30 June 2030 and is reportedly set to earn around €2.5 million net per season. It’s a clear signal: this is not a stopgap signing. This is a central piece of the club’s defensive rebuild.
From Bologna cornerstone to Turin
Lucumí arrives after four seasons in Emilia-Romagna, where he quietly became one of Serie A’s most reliable central defenders. Under Thiago Motta, he stood at the heart of Bologna’s rise, helping drive the club to Champions League qualification and, a year later, to a Coppa Italia final victory.
He didn’t just feature. He led. Across each of his seasons with Bologna, Lucumí logged at least 2,200 minutes in Serie A, a marker of both trust and durability. Week after week, he anchored a back line that grew in confidence and ambition.
That consistency, coupled with his performances on the international stage, pushed him onto Juventus’ shortlist. His insistence on waiting for the Bianconeri did the rest.
A new pillar for a new cycle
For Juventus, this is the defensive reinforcement they have been craving as the new season kicks off. For Lucumí, it is the move he has chased all summer.
