Joël Piroe Joins West Ham on Loan for Championship Push

Leeds United have confirmed that striker Joël Piroe has joined West Ham United on loan for the rest of the 2026/27 season, handing the London club a proven Championship goalscorer for their promotion push.

The Surinamese forward arrived at Elland Road from Swansea City in August 2023 on the back of a 19-goal haul in the second tier. He wasted no time justifying the move. Two days after signing, he was thrown straight in for his debut against Ipswich Town in the Championship – and marked it with a goal for Daniel Farke’s side.

That early impact set the tone. Piroe featured 53 times in all competitions in his first campaign in Yorkshire, finding the net 16 times as he quickly became a key part of Farke’s attack.

The following season he went up a level. Piroe played 48 games and struck 19 goals as Leeds stormed to the Championship title and secured their return to the Premier League. His tally earned him the division’s Golden Boot, underlining his status as one of the most reliable finishers outside the top flight.

Now 27, Piroe heads to a West Ham team desperate to make their own immediate return to the Premier League after suffering relegation last season. The Hammers have moved for a striker with a clear record of delivering in this division, hoping his goals can tilt a tight promotion race in their favour.

Leeds, for their part, have thanked Piroe for his contribution and wished him well for his spell at the London Stadium. The next chapter of his Championship story will be written in claret and blue.
