Jadon Sancho's Next Move: A Potential Return to Borussia Dortmund

Jadon Sancho is leaning towards a move abroad as he weighs up his next step, despite concrete interest from Premier League clubs.

Six weeks on from the expiry of his Manchester United contract, the 26-year-old winger remains a free agent and is carefully assessing his options. Offers from England are on the table, but those close to the situation believe his preference is to restart his career outside the country.

One familiar door may be opening again. Borussia Dortmund, where Sancho made his name and racked up 158 appearances across two spells, are understood to be among the clubs monitoring his situation. It was from Dortmund that United paid £73m to bring him back to the Premier League in 2021, a move that never fully caught fire.

Sancho is thought to favour a fresh challenge away from England, yet he is not shutting anything down at this stage and remains open to all possibilities as the new season approaches.

His recent club journey has been turbulent. He spent last season on loan at Aston Villa, making 39 appearances as Unai Emery’s side surged into the Champions League and lifted the Europa League. Sancho featured as a late substitute in the victory over Freiburg, his third European final in as many seasons.

The England attacker had already spent the 2024-25 campaign on loan at Chelsea, where he played 41 times. That agreement contained an obligation to buy, but Chelsea chose a different route, paying a £5m penalty to send him back to Manchester United instead of making the deal permanent.

Now, with his Old Trafford chapter officially closed, Sancho is keeping himself sharp away from the spotlight. He has been training with non-league side Flixton to maintain his fitness while he waits for the right offer.
