Ivan Toney Charged with Assault After Nightclub Incident

England striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an incident at a London nightclub in Soho.

The charge, brought on July 31, relates to an event on Dec. 6, 2025. Toney is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Sept. 24, where the case will move into the public spotlight.

A spokesperson for Toney said the forward “acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.” It is the only comment so far from the player’s camp, setting the tone for what is likely to become a closely watched legal process.

Toney, who now plays for Al Ahli in the Saudi Pro League, returned to the England setup earlier this summer and forced his way into the World Cup squad. He featured as a late substitute in the 2-1 semifinal defeat to Argentina, thrown on as England chased a late equaliser, and earned his only start of the tournament in the wild 6-4 win over France in the third-place playoff.

The 28-year-old has 10 caps and one goal for his country, a career rebuilt after previous setbacks and suspensions. Now he faces another battle, this time away from the pitch, with his next decisive date not in a stadium but in a London courtroom.
