Hull City Faces Setback as Fortini Joins Torino and David Stays at Juventus

Hull City’s Italian recruitment drive has taken a double hit, with Niccolò Fortini officially joining Torino and Juventus forward Jonathan David also rejecting a move to the MKM Stadium.

Torino confirmed on Friday that Fortini has arrived from Fiorentina on an initial loan with an option to buy. Italian outlet TMW reports the loan fee stands at €500,000, with the permanent clause set at €9.5m.

The 20-year-old, a versatile full-back comfortable across the defensive line, had been in talks with Hull City, but multiple Italian reports indicated last week that he had already chosen Torino. Fiorentina, whose previous deal with Fortini ran to June 2027, moved quickly to protect his value by extending his contract to 2030 before sanctioning the loan.

It is a significant coup for Torino, who add a promising Italy U21 defender to their ranks, and a clear setback for Hull, who had hoped to tempt him to England.

The disappointment did not end there for the Premier League side. According to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, Hull also approached Juventus over Jonathan David, only to be turned down by the Canada international. The forward, the report claims, has decided to remain in Turin rather than pursue a move to the MKM Stadium.

Two targets. Two refusals. Hull’s search for attacking and defensive reinforcements now heads into its next phase, with Italy having just closed its doors.
