Harry Kane Prepares for Bayern Contract Talks
Harry Kane says he is prepared to open talks with Bayern Munich over a new deal, with the England captain entering the final year of his contract in Germany.
The 33-year-old striker, who joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur for £86.4m in August 2023, is about to step into a decisive phase of his future. One year left. No panic, but no more drifting either.
“We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday,” Kane explained. “So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week... we'll start those talks.
“Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation.
“Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week.”
A ruthless season in Munich
Calm off the pitch, ruthless on it.
Kane hit a staggering 61 goals in 51 games in all competitions last season, driving Vincent Kompany’s side to a league and cup double. Bayern wanted a guaranteed goalscorer when they broke their transfer record. They got one.
Across three Bundesliga campaigns, his numbers are even more brutal: 98 goals in 94 league appearances and three straight Bundesliga Golden Boot awards. The league has had no answer.
World Cup history and Ballon d’Or talk
The story did not stop at club level.
At the 2026 World Cup, Kane scored six times for England, taking his tally to 14 goals in 18 World Cup appearances and becoming his country’s all-time leading scorer at the tournament. A landmark that once felt unreachable now sits next to his name.
Those exploits, combined with his Bayern form, have pushed him firmly into the conversation for the 2026 Ballon d'Or. He knows it. Everyone does.
“The Ballon d'Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view,” Kane said.
“I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season.
“The Ballon d'Or's not in my hands. I've done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It's now down to votes and other people and the media - stuff I can't control - so we'll see what happens.
“Obviously, it would be amazing if it was to happen. But ultimately, it's still two or three months away before that's decided so it's not something that's at the front of my mind right now.”
So the picture is clear. Contract talks are coming. Ballon d'Or noise is growing. Kane, though, is locking in on the next campaign – and on whether Bayern’s No 9 era becomes a long-running saga or a glittering, shorter chapter in Munich.
