Guglielmo Vicario Joins Juventus on Loan from Tottenham
Tottenham goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario is heading back to Italy, with Juventus striking a deal that has already earned Fabrizio Romano’s trademark “here we go” seal.
The agreement ends a turbulent spell in north London for the 29-year-old, whose season never really recovered after he underwent hernia surgery in March. Antonin Kinsky stepped in and held the shirt as Spurs stumbled over the line, surviving relegation by just two points on the final day. Vicario, once signed as a long-term solution, became one of several underperformers in a campaign Tottenham will want to forget quickly.
Juventus, though, see an opportunity.
The Turin club had been chasing Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa, only for that move to collapse. The moment that door closed, their gaze fixed firmly on Vicario. Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reported that Juventus had “stepped up their game” for the Italian, accelerating talks and driving the deal towards its final stages.
Negotiations moved fast. The structure was clear: a loan with an option to buy, not an obligation. It suits Juventus, who gain flexibility in reshaping their goalkeeping department, and it suits Spurs, who respect Vicario’s wish to return to Serie A while keeping some protection on the deal.
The pace of the talks was underlined by the presence of Vicario’s agent in Turin. Initially in the city to work on a move for Jhon Lucumí, he stayed on to sit down with the Juventus hierarchy and push Vicario’s transfer over the line. From there, the operation entered what Di Marzio called its “extremely heated” phase, with all sides working intensely to close the final details.
The pressure finally told.
On X, Romano announced: “Juventus agree deal to sign Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham, here we go! Spurs accept loan proposal with buy option clause – not mandatory. Vicario wanted the move and leaves #THFC today. New goalkeeper for Juventus.”
The message was blunt, definitive, and in keeping with the trajectory of the past few days: once Juventus pivoted away from Martinez, they did not look back.
David Ornstein of The Athletic backed up the news, confirming that Tottenham had accepted Juventus’ bid. He described the proposal as a loan with an option to buy next summer, with all parties expecting the signing of the Italy international to proceed now that the Martinez pursuit is over.
For Vicario, it is a reset. For Juventus, it is a calculated move in a key position. For Tottenham, it is another hard decision in a summer that already feels like a turning point.
