Gavi Rejects £35m Move to Manchester United for Barcelona Commitment
Manchester United came calling with money on the table and a clear role in mind. Gavi’s answer was blunt: no.
According to reports in England and Spain, United were ready to put around £35 million (€41 million) on the line to tempt the Barcelona midfielder to Old Trafford as part of their midfield rebuild under Michael Carrick. The interest had been brewing, not just a late scramble. They saw him as a cornerstone piece.
It didn’t matter. Gavi isn’t leaving.
United’s rebuild hits a wall
United have already thrown serious money at their midfield this summer, with around £85 million spent on Youri Tielemans and Andrey Santos. The plan was to add a third profile: energy, aggression, La Masia schooling, someone who could grow with the project.
That led them straight to Gavi, a player they viewed as attainable at the right price given Barcelona’s well-documented financial strain. The Premier League side were prepared, the offer was clear, the pathway into the team obvious.
But the player’s stance has been even clearer. He has no intention of swapping Barcelona for Manchester, no matter how enticing the project or the salary might be.

For Gavi, this is not a complicated decision. He has told Barcelona and those around him that he wants to stay, fight for his place and prove himself again at the club that shaped him.
An academy product who joined La Masia at the age of 11, he has grown into one of its flagship graduates. That bond still weighs more than any Premier League bid. Even after a brutal season interrupted by a serious knee injury that sidelined him for six months, his commitment to Barça has not wavered.
He believes there is unfinished business at the Olympic Stadium and, soon enough, back at Camp Nou. He wants to regain his status in the squad, not walk away from it.
Flick’s trust and a crowded midfield
The landscape around him has changed. The arrival of Rodri has pushed the competition in Barcelona’s midfield up another level. Hansi Flick now has a deeper pool of options in the centre of the pitch, and the battle for minutes will be fierce.
That reality could have nudged Gavi towards the exit. It hasn’t.
