Talks between the clubs have entered their decisive phase. PSG tied down personal terms with Ferran some time ago; the only loose ends now are the final details of the transfer structure and payment conditions.
For Barcelona, the numbers matter. Offloading a player with just one year left on his contract for around €55 million represents strong business on a purely financial level, even if it means saying goodbye to a World Cup final hero who has just hit his peak.
A sale with a purpose: unlocking the Rodri deal
Ferran’s exit is not an isolated move. It sits at the heart of Barcelona’s bigger summer plan: the pursuit of Rodri from Manchester City.
The Catalan club have already pushed twice. Their first proposal, worth €50 million, was rejected. A second offer, rising to €60 million including fixed and variable components, has also been turned down, according to reports in England and Spain.
City are holding firm. Barcelona, though, are not walking away.
The next step is already mapped out. Barça intend to return with a third, “definitive” offer in the region of €70 million — €60 million guaranteed plus €10 million in add-ons. The fresh cash injection from Ferran’s sale is central to that plan, easing both the transfer fee and the club’s tight registration constraints.
The pressure from Barcelona’s side is obvious: one major outgoing to fund one marquee incoming. As Ferran prepares for Paris, the club’s hierarchy will hope his departure becomes the key that finally unlocks Rodri from Manchester.
