Ferran Torres Joins Paris Saint-Germain for €50 Million
Ferran Torres, the man who broke Argentina’s heart in last month’s World Cup final, has swapped Barcelona for Paris Saint-Germain in a blockbuster move worth a reported 50 million euros.
The 26-year-old Spain forward has signed a long-term deal in the French capital, tying him to the Ligue 1 champions until 2031, PSG confirmed on Saturday.
“Paris Saint-Germain is delighted to announce it has secured the services of Ferran Torres. The Spanish World Cup-winning forward has signed with the Club until 2031,” the club said in a statement, underlining the scale of the investment in a player entering his prime.
Enrique and Torres, together again
Torres’ arrival reunites him with Luis Enrique, the coach who first trusted him on the international stage. As Spain boss, Enrique handed Torres his debut in a Nations League clash against Germany in 2020. Now they link up again at club level, this time with Champions League expectations hanging over them.
The forward, nicknamed “The Shark”, has built a reputation for decisive moments. In the World Cup final, he came off the bench and struck in extra-time, the goal that denied Argentina a successful title defence and secured Spain the trophy. That finish cemented his status as one of the most ruthless operators in the international game.
From Valencia to Barça glory
Before Paris, Torres carved out a high-profile path through Valencia, Manchester City and Barcelona. At Barça, he collected three La Liga titles and became a regular source of goals in big matches.
Signed in the 2021/22 season, he went on to make 207 appearances for FC Barcelona, scoring 65 times. One of those goals came in the 2025 Copa del Rey final victory over Real Madrid, a night that further embedded him in the club’s recent history.
Barcelona marked his departure with a note of appreciation rather than regret. “The Club would like to express its gratitude to Ferran Torres for his commitment over the last four and a half seasons as a blaugrana and wishes him all the best for the next stage of his professional career,” read their statement.
Transfer domino for Liverpool?
Torres’ move could ripple beyond Paris and Barcelona. His signing potentially unlocks a major Premier League transfer.
With PSG adding another high-profile attacker, Liverpool’s hopes of landing Bradley Barcola may quietly rise. The 23-year-old winger lit up the World Cup for France and has been on Liverpool’s radar for weeks, but negotiations have stalled over PSG’s steep valuation.
The French champions are understood to want around 150 million euros for Barcola, a figure that has so far blocked any agreement. Whether Torres’ arrival nudges that stance, or simply strengthens PSG’s hand, will be one of the next subplots in a transfer window suddenly tilting towards Paris.
