Ferran Torres, the man who decided a World Cup final, is on the move again. This time, to Paris.
Paris St-Germain have landed the Spain forward from Barcelona on a long-term deal running until 2031, in a transfer understood to be worth around 50m euros (£42.7m). It is a statement signing from the European champions, and a clear nod to where they want their attack to go next.
From World Cup hero to Paris project
Only last month, Torres wrote his name into Spanish football folklore, striking the extra-time winner against Argentina to deliver Spain a second men’s World Cup title. That goal alone would have inflated his value, but his body of work at club level already had Europe’s elite circling.
At Barcelona, the 26-year-old produced his most complete season since arriving from Manchester City in 2022. Now he walks into a dressing room he already knows well. PSG are coached by Luis Enrique, the man who first trusted Torres on the international stage and gave him his Spain debut. Under Enrique, the forward has flourished for the national team, scoring 25 goals in 65 appearances and becoming a regular reference point in Spain’s front line.

PSG are not signing from a position of weakness. They have lifted the Champions League in each of the last two seasons, finally cracking the code that had eluded them for so long. On Wednesday, they added yet another piece of silverware, beating Aston Villa 2-1 to claim the Uefa Super Cup.
Yet the recruitment drive has not slowed. Torres becomes the second marquee attacking addition of the summer, following the arrival of Maghnes Akliouche from Monaco. One brings World Cup pedigree and proven output at the very highest level; the other, one of Ligue 1’s most intriguing young forwards. It is a blend that suggests Enrique wants variety and depth, not just star power.
The move also tightens the bond between PSG and Barcelona. Enrique, a former Barça player and coach, now tempts one of the Catalan club’s key forwards to Paris, reinforcing the sense that PSG are building a side in his image: intense, vertical, and ruthless in transition.
A shifting forward line
There is another layer to this deal. PSG’s attacking department could yet lose Bradley Barcola, with Liverpool interested in the 21-year-old. If the Frenchman departs, Torres arrives not just as luxury, but as necessity.
Torres offers goals, yes, but also versatility across the front line and a deep tactical understanding of Enrique’s demands. He can play wide, drift inside, press aggressively, and still carry the weight of expectation that comes with deciding finals.
