Ethan Williams Joins Peterborough United from Manchester United
Manchester United have confirmed the departure of young winger Ethan Williams to Peterborough United, as the club’s summer clear-out of fringe talent gathers pace.
The 20-year-old, highly regarded within the academy setup, has left Old Trafford in a permanent deal to join the League One side on a long-term contract.
United continue to trim the squad

United announced the transfer with a brief statement confirming the academy forward had “agreed a move to League One side Peterborough United, subject to registration.”

Peterborough have described the fee as “sizeable” and undisclosed, but the numbers have quickly emerged elsewhere.
talkSPORT’s chief transfer reporter Alex Crook revealed the deal is worth just over £750,000, including performance-related add-ons. Posting on X, he labelled it a “good signing for Posh,” underlining the belief that Peterborough have landed a serious prospect at a price that could look shrewd down the line.
For United, it is another example of turning academy potential into hard cash at a time when every pound matters under financial regulations.
Posh land a livewire wide threat
Peterborough wasted no time talking up their new arrival. Their statement announced the “permanent signing of highly-rated Manchester United winger Ethan Williams for a sizeable undisclosed fee,” confirming the 20-year-old has signed a long-term deal after completing the formalities at the club’s Bespoke Builds Training Ground.
Williams arrives on the back of a full pre-season with United’s first team. He featured on tour and even found the net in a 5-0 win over Rosenborg, a glimpse of his attacking instincts on a bigger stage.
Posh boss Luke Williams made it clear exactly what he expects from his new winger.
“Ethan is a player that will give us another option in the wide areas, he is quick, direct and will be a threat and I am looking forward to working with him,” he said. “He has already got first team experience at a few clubs and joins us after being away with Manchester United on their pre-season tour, so he is fit and ready to go.”
