Deniz Undav Signs New VfB Stuttgart Contract Until 2029
Deniz Undav has nailed his colours to the VfB Stuttgart mast, signing a new contract that keeps him at the club until 2029, with an option for a further year.
For a player who arrived from Brighton and Hove Albion on an initial loan in the summer of 2023, it completes a remarkable transformation. Undav has not just settled in Stuttgart; he has become the face of their resurgence.
From loanee to linchpin
Since pulling on the VfB shirt, the 29-year-old has turned the Bundesliga into his stage. Across 86 league appearances, he has racked up 46 goals and 18 assists, numbers that place him firmly among the most dangerous forwards in Germany’s top flight.
Those statistics only tell part of the story. Undav has become the reference point in Sebastian Hoeneß’s attack, the player teammates look for when the game tightens and the crowd leans forward. His movement between the lines, his penalty-box instincts, his willingness to work without the ball – all of it has driven Stuttgart’s climb back into the elite.
Undav knows exactly what this new deal means to him.
"I'm over the moon to be continuing my career in Stuttgart," he said. “This contract extension means so much to me. The club and the city have become my second home over the past three years – right from day one, everyone welcomed me and my family with open arms and a lot of love. I'm really looking forward to spending many more years as part of the VfB family and enjoying lots more success."
Stuttgart’s spearhead in a golden spell
Stuttgart’s recent run has been no coincidence. With Undav at the tip of the spear, VfB have finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, lifted the DFB Cup and punched their ticket back to the Champions League.
Inside the club, they know how central he has been to that surge.
"Signing Deniz for another three years is an absolute winner, both for us as a club and for Deniz himself," said board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth. "In his time in Stuttgart, Deniz has become a Germany international with a World Cup around the corner. VfB finishing runners-up in the league, winning the DFB Cup and just recently qualifying for the Champions League once again has a lot to do with him as well."
It is rare for a striker to align so perfectly with a club’s moment in time. Undav has done exactly that, turning big games into personal showcases and giving Stuttgart a ruthless edge in both domestic and European chases.
Club hero, country’s new weapon
His rise has not gone unnoticed beyond Baden-Württemberg. Julian Nagelsmann has named Undav in Germany’s 26-man squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup in Canada, Mexico and the USA, a clear sign of the trust now placed in him at the highest level.
From fringe loanee to cornerstone of a Champions League side, from late bloomer to World Cup forward – Undav’s journey has gathered speed.
Stuttgart have moved decisively to make sure the next, defining chapters of that story are written in red and white.
