Danilo Plans to End Career at Flamengo in 2027

Danilo has his timeline. And he’s made it clear where he wants it to end.

Speaking at Ninho do Urubu, the veteran defender laid out his plan to close his career at Flamengo in 2027, revealing that talks over a final contract are already moving in the right direction.

“In 2026, I had very little time to reflect and assess; there was a World Cup in between, and at 35 years old, I had to dedicate myself immensely physically to measure up and be well prepared,” he said, explaining why discussions over his future had been pushed back.

His energy, he admitted, had been consumed by international duty before he could sit with the club’s hierarchy and map out the last chapter of his career.

Only now, he continued, has he found the mental space to truly look ahead.

“Now is when I've had more peace of mind to think about it. Flamengo and I have been talking, and I hope 2027 is the year we can be together so I can play the final year of my career.”

The message was firm: this is not a negotiation driven by tension or doubt. The former Real Madrid and Manchester City defender underlined that renewal talks have flowed smoothly, with no major issues on either side. Both parties, he suggested, are aligned.

“We have spoken very calmly. Both sides share the desire to move forward, to put together another beautiful year, and a year where I can truly say ‘this is the last year of my career’ and finish at the club of my heart, in a project I believed in and that has been working.”

For Danilo, this is about more than one last contract. It is about closing the circle at the club he calls home, with a team he feels is on the right path.

“I don't think there are any obstacles preventing this from happening,” he added, before setting out his dream scenario for that final season. “Hopefully in 2027 we can be together, finish my career at Flamengo, and, God willing, win a major trophy – that would be wonderful.”

A farewell year, a packed Maracanã, and a major title in red and black. Danilo has drawn the outline. Now Flamengo must help fill it in.
