Diao Shines in Como's Fearless Champions League Debut

Como stepped into the Champions League for the very first time and played as if they had been here for years. No nerves, no caution. Just a blistering, fearless 4-1 dismantling of Leipzig that announced their arrival on Europe’s biggest stage.

The goal doubled as a late birthday gift, arriving just after he turned 21 on Monday. It also felt like a reward for a difficult road since joining the club in 2025, a journey disrupted by a foot fracture and then a thigh strain that stalled his progress and limited his minutes.

On this stage, though, there was no sign of hesitation. Just a young forward finally breaking free of bad luck and grabbing his moment.

"A win in the first Champions League game, we cannot have asked for more," he said. "We’re all happy with the result, but also the performance and the joy of our fans."

One blemish, little regret

Leipzig did find a way through once, Andrija Maksimovic punishing a rare lapse as Como tried to play out from the back. It was the kind of mistake that can rattle a side new to this level.

It didn’t. The response was cold and clinical. Como tightened up, then went back to slicing through Leipzig’s lines. The celebrations barely dipped.

If anything, that single concession will serve as a reminder that even on a dream night, there is still work to do.
