Cody Gakpo has told Liverpool he wants out – and his preferred destination is clear. He wants to join Roberto De Zerbi’s Tottenham Hotspur project.
The Dutch forward’s camp has already shaken hands on personal terms in principle with Spurs, and the situation has now moved up a gear. His representatives have spoken directly to Liverpool’s hierarchy to spell out the player’s stance: he does not see his long-term future at Anfield and wants the chance to restart his Premier League story in north London.
Gakpo pushed down the pecking order

Those conversations have hit the mark. Gakpo is understood to be hugely impressed by what he has heard, particularly the prospect of being a key figure in a side being reshaped under De Zerbi’s aggressive, front-foot style.
Tottenham want another forward regardless and remain in the hunt for Manchester City’s Savinho, with the belief inside the club that they can bring in both players.
One of the big selling points is Gakpo’s flexibility. Spurs see him as someone who can operate off the left and also through the middle, giving De Zerbi another high-level option across the front line rather than a specialist for just one role.
Liverpool hold firm – but Spurs ready to pay
Liverpool, though, are not rolling over. The club’s stance is firm: they want more than £60million before even thinking about letting Gakpo go.
That figure has not scared Tottenham off. Sources indicate Spurs are prepared to meet Liverpool’s valuation with their upcoming bid, a move that has sharply increased the likelihood of a deal being struck.
