Chelsea's Liam Delap Attracts Interest from Como

A Chelsea summer that seemed destined to revolve around Enzo Fernandez’s possible switch to Manchester City has suddenly thrown up a different storyline.

Liam Delap, after just one turbulent year at Stamford Bridge, is now attracting serious interest from Italy.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Como have made an initial approach for Delap, with the striker described as “high on the shortlist” for Cesc Fabregas’ side.

The Serie A newcomers have already dipped into Chelsea’s squad once this window, sealing a deal for Trevoh Chalobah. Now they are pushing for a centre-forward, and Delap has emerged as a leading candidate as the clock ticks down towards the end of the window.

With only two weeks left to trade and Como still searching for a striker, the timing is clear: they need a deal, and they need it quickly.

Chelsea ready to move on

Delap’s Chelsea career has never really taken off. After a difficult first season in blue, his stock has sunk, and a clean break increasingly looks like the best solution for all parties.

He remains tied to a long-term contract, which complicates any permanent exit and keeps the door open to a loan. There is no firm indication yet that Chelsea and Como are working on a temporary move, but given his contract length and current market value, a loan remains a realistic route.

Any such deal would, however, use up one of Chelsea’s limited foreign loan slots, a factor the club cannot ignore as they juggle multiple outgoing moves late in the window.

For Delap, though, the equation is simpler: a fresh start, a coach in Fabregas who wants a striker of his profile, and a club on the rise in Serie A. With Como pushing and time running out, this could be the move that finally gives his stalled Chelsea chapter a definitive ending.
