Chelsea Firm on Enzo Fernandez Amid Manchester City Interest

Chelsea have moved to shut down growing speculation around Enzo Fernandez, with head coach Xabi Alonso insisting the midfielder remains central to his plans despite strong interest from Manchester City.

City have been tracking the 25-year-old Argentina international as they look to reinforce their midfield options, but a key deadline has already passed without a move. Chelsea had set 14 August as the cut-off for any formal approach. No bid arrived. The message that followed from Stamford Bridge was blunt: Fernandez is not for sale this summer.

Speaking before Chelsea’s Premier League opener against Fulham, Alonso underlined the club’s stance and the player’s mindset.

“Enzo is a Chelsea player. We are happy with him and he’s getting ready for Monday,” Alonso said, making it clear there is no sense of distraction in the camp.

The Spaniard went further, highlighting how Fernandez has responded since rejoining the squad.

“He has integrated really well since rejoining the group after the World Cup and is training really well. I see him with a really good attitude and that’s what we want,” Alonso added.

City’s admiration has not gone away, but for now it is running into a blue wall. Chelsea maintain that Fernandez will stay at Stamford Bridge, even as his name continues to dominate late-window discussions.

The midfielder’s relationship with supporters has been under the microscope during pre-season, with reactions from the stands mixed at times. Chelsea, though, offered a clear show of faith when they handed him the captain’s armband in the friendly win over Real Sociedad, a symbolic nod to his status in the dressing room.
