Chelsea sets deadline for Enzo amid City’s Rodri dilemma
The clock is already ticking on the biggest story of the day. Chelsea have handed Manchester City a hard deadline: 5pm today, £120m, or Enzo Fernandez stays at Stamford Bridge.
No instalments, no discount, no negotiation. That is the message from a Chelsea hierarchy still bristling from losing Enzo Maresca to City and being forced to accept a £17m compensation cheque in the process. City had hoped to drag the price down. Chelsea look in no mood to play along.
For City, Enzo is the contingency plan. The real domino is Rodri.
Rodri, Barcelona and a reshaped City midfield
Barcelona are pushing. City have already rejected two bids for Rodri, the latest worth £55m, but talks remain open and the La Liga side are not walking away.
The Spaniard is available for around £60m and Barcelona know it. City, though, are trying to manage a full midfield rebuild on the fly.
Tijjani Reijnders is the next piece to move. City have agreed a £51m deal with Saudi Pro League side Al Qadsiah and the Dutchman has accepted personal terms. One year after arriving from AC Milan for £46.5m, he is heading out of the Etihad with City turning a profit.
Factor in Nathan Ake’s sale to Fenerbahce and James Trafford’s move to Leeds, and City are closing in on £100m in outgoing fees this window. That money is already being eyed for reinforcements: they are in pole position to land Lille’s World Cup breakout talent Ayyoub Bouaddi, and could yet be forced into that Enzo showdown with Chelsea.
All of it hangs on Rodri. If he goes, City’s midfield will look unrecognisable by the end of the week.
Spurs close on Savinho as De Zerbi’s overhaul accelerates
While City wrestle with the middle of the pitch, Tottenham are circling one of their wingers. Spurs are edging towards an agreement for Savinho, with a package understood to be £65m plus add-ons as Roberto De Zerbi continues a ruthless rebuild.
Savinho only joined City from Troyes in 2024 for just over £30m and is still only 22, but Tottenham have decided he is worth paying a premium for. It would be another major outlay in a window where they have already brought in Sandro Tonali, Mateus Fernandes, Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, Martin Dubravka and Cole Ramsey.
Only Chelsea have spent more in the Premier League so far. De Zerbi is not tinkering; he is tearing up and rewriting the squad.
Arsenal, Martinelli and the Osimhen question
Across north London, Arsenal’s business is very much alive. Mikel Arteta has been clear: they are not done.
Galatasaray have put Gabriel Martinelli at the top of their wish list, tabling a £38.5m bid for the Brazilian winger, according to reports in Germany. The Turkish club are serious players in this window and the conversations have taken an intriguing turn.
The name Victor Osimhen has entered the talks.
The Telegraph report that discussions between Arsenal and Galatasaray have touched on a move for the striker, though it is not yet clear whether Arsenal are driving the pursuit or whether Osimhen has been proposed to them as part of a wider package. A structure that sends Martinelli to Istanbul and brings Osimhen to the Premier League, with a reduced fee on top, is said to appeal to Galatasaray.
Arsenal, who have already signed winger Christos Tzolis and remain linked with Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez and PSG’s Bradley Barcola, are openly in the market for a new attacker. Whether that attacker ends up being Osimhen could shape the entire feel of their season.
Liverpool wait, PSG stall over Barcola
Bradley Barcola sits at the centre of another tug-of-war. Liverpool have made the 23-year-old France international their leading attacking target and are prepared to bide their time.
PSG’s current stance is brutal: a valuation of around €170m (£145m). GiveMeSport’s Ben Jacobs reports that Liverpool believe that figure will fall if PSG complete deals for one or more new forwards in this window, and they are ready to wait for the price to crack.
The European champions have already spent €50m on Monaco midfielder Maghnes Akliouche but still want a winger or striker through the door before softening their position on Barcola. Arsenal are also monitoring the situation and could pounce if they decide to spend big.
For now, Luis Enrique is keeping his cards close. Asked about Barcola’s future ahead of Wednesday’s Super Cup clash with Aston Villa in Salzburg, the PSG manager refused to be drawn, saying he would not speak about any individual player and would remain focused on his team.
Barcola, who scored three times for France at the World Cup, only rejoined the PSG squad last Monday with the rest of the French and Spanish contingent. He could feature against Villa while his future is debated in boardrooms rather than dressing rooms.
Romero set for Atletico as Spurs’ churn continues
Tottenham’s summer is not just about arrivals. Cristian Romero is now set to leave, with Atletico Madrid agreeing a deal in principle for the defender.
The fee sits at around £34.2m plus add-ons and includes a 15 per cent sell-on clause, according to reports. Inter Milan had also been linked but have turned their attention to closing a move for Djed Spence instead.
For Spurs, it is another sign of a squad being reshaped at speed and at scale.
The market is moving at full tilt. A deadline on Enzo, a decision on Rodri, Liverpool’s patience over Barcola, Arsenal’s flirtation with Osimhen and Martinelli’s future, Spurs ripping up their squad.
