Chelsea's Pursuit of Alex Scott Faces Firm Rejection from Bournemouth

Chelsea’s plan to reshape their midfield around Alex Scott has slammed into a red-and-black wall on the south coast.

Most of Chelsea’s summer business was wrapped up early, but a new central midfielder always sat on the to-do list. When they moved, they moved hard, zeroing in on Scott despite Bournemouth’s early hands-off warning.

The admiration is widespread. Scott, described internally as “amazing”, has kicked on again after another impressive campaign, his rise significant enough that talks over a new contract at Bournemouth were parked last month. Chelsea saw an opening. Bournemouth shut it.

Bournemouth’s Europa stance

This is a different Bournemouth now. A Europa League club, and behaving like one.

Internally, the message has been consistent: the club’s biggest stars are staying put for the new season. Players, agents, and rival clubs have all been told the same thing. Scott sits firmly in that protected bracket.

Bournemouth’s hierarchy have studied how Premier League sides have coped when juggling domestic fixtures with European football. The conclusion was blunt – the teams that suffered most were the ones who broke up their squads at the wrong time. So the plan is simple: keep the core, ride out the extra demands, and give themselves the best possible shot at competing on multiple fronts.

That plan leaves Chelsea out in the cold.

Manchester City lurking – but blocked as well

Chelsea are not alone in their admiration. Manchester City also like Scott and have tracked him as a potential long-term midfield option. Yet even City, with their financial muscle and recent history of prising key players away, have been forced to look elsewhere because of Bournemouth’s stance.

One of the names on City’s alternative list is Enzo Fernandez himself. The irony is obvious. Chelsea won’t consider cashing in on Enzo unless they can secure a replacement. Bournemouth won’t sell the replacement.

For now, the circle doesn’t square.

Marco Rose given a settled squad

All of this feeds into Bournemouth’s backing for new manager Marco Rose. The club moved quickly earlier in the window to complete most of their transfer business, giving Rose clarity and control over his squad heading into the season.

Those early deals doubled as a message to the market: Bournemouth are not a shop window this summer. With the deadline looming, that message has only hardened.

So while Chelsea scour the market for midfield reinforcements, the reality is stark. The player they identified as the ideal Enzo successor is going nowhere. Bournemouth are in Europe, they are ambitious, and they are not blinking.

Chelsea now have a decision to make. Change the target, or risk going into the season with a gaping hole in the middle of the pitch.
