Bruno Guimaraes Aims for Arsenal Dynasty
Bruno Guimaraes has walked into Arsenal at full speed and with his eyes wide open. He is not talking about settling in, or easing his way into a new dressing room. He is talking about a dynasty.
Fresh from helping Arsenal dismantle Manchester City 3-0 in the Community Shield in Cardiff, the £75million signing from Newcastle has barely had time to catch his breath. Arsenal then brushed aside newly promoted Coventry 3-0 at the Emirates Stadium to begin the defence of their Premier League crown with a statement win.
Guimaraes was missing from that home opener, a groin problem from the City game delaying what was supposed to be his big north London unveiling. The wait has not dulled his enthusiasm.
From the moment Mikel Arteta picked up the phone, Guimaraes felt he was stepping into something bigger than a simple title defence.
“Since the first time I spoke to him, he wants to make a dynasty here, trying to win everything as possible and I am always very excited of his idea,” he told the Men In Blazers network on YouTube.
Everything around him is new – the training ground rhythms, the patterns of play, the demands of a manager who has turned Arsenal into a relentless machine. Guimaraes is honest enough to admit he is still finding his place in that structure.
“Everything is very new for me, and I am just trying to get used to the players, to the manager, to the staff, the way he works,” he said. “I can say that I am still finding my best way in the group, but I love it here.”
Arteta has assembled one of the most imposing midfields in Europe, and Guimaraes walks straight into the heart of it. He does not come with conditions or caveats about role or position.
“I can play every position in the midfield, but this just depends on Mikel’s ideas,” the Brazilian said. “He said to me that I can play everywhere, and I said yes, it just depends on you and where he wanted me to play. I am just ready to play for Arsenal, no matter where.”
That flexibility feeds into a wider ambition. Guimaraes is not shy about what he believes this squad can achieve, but he refuses to dress it up with personal milestones or statistical goals.
“I don’t have like one target – we go for everything,” he insisted. “I think the potential we have in this team is unbelievable. I don’t want to put targets, we need to think game again and let’s see how far we can go, but with this team, I have a big chance of winning trophies.”
Next comes the first real test of that mentality on the road. Arsenal travel to Aston Villa on Monday night, a fixture that will carry an extra edge for Ezri Konsa. The England defender completed a £51m move to Arsenal last week and could now make his debut against the club where he made his name, having sat out both the City and Coventry matches.
At the other end of the spectrum, Gabriel Martinelli’s Arsenal chapter appears to be nearing its end. The Brazilian forward has not featured in either of the opening two games and is now reportedly closing in on a move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal.
Arsenal are building something under Arteta. Guimaraes is convinced it can last. The next few months will show whether that talk of a dynasty is just bold rhetoric – or the early language of an era.
