Brighton Signs Canada Striker Promise David on Loan

Brighton have moved to sharpen their attack with the signing of Canada striker Promise David from Royale Union Saint-Gilloise on a season-long loan, which includes an obligation to buy for a reported £22m.

The 25-year-old arrives on the south coast with a serious scoring record. Since joining Union Saint-Gilloise in 2024, he has hit 41 goals and supplied nine assists in 82 appearances, numbers that caught Brighton’s eye and refused to let go.

His route to the Premier League has been anything but straightforward. David began his career in Canada, then bounced through spells in Croatia and the United States. From there he headed to the Maltese Premier League, turning out for two clubs before earning a move to Estonian side Nomme Kalju. His form in Estonia opened the door to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise and, now, to English football.

On the international stage, David has already shown he can handle the biggest occasion. He featured in four of Canada’s five World Cup matches, coming off the bench each time, and scored in the 2-1 group-stage defeat to Switzerland.

“Promise is someone we have been watching for some time, he is an out-and-out striker who possesses outstanding physical attributes and a track record of scoring goals,” said Brighton sporting director Mike Cave. “His experience at international level and in European competition will hopefully prove valuable this season. At 25, he's entering his prime playing years and we're excited to see him continue to develop in our environment.”

Brighton wanted a pure No 9 with power, mobility and end product. Now they have one. How quickly Promise David translates that promise to the Premier League will shape the edge of their attack this season.
