Manchester United have been invited to crash Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola this summer – but any club expecting a straightforward deal with Paris Saint-Germain is in for a jolt.

Liverpool’s need is clear and urgent. Mohamed Salah has gone after nine glittering years at Anfield, leaving a gaping hole on the right of Andoni Iraola’s attack. RMC Sport suggest the bidding would start at around €70m (£59.5m, $80m). That figure already sounds hefty. It may also be wildly optimistic.

Sources close to the situation indicate PSG’s internal stance is far tougher. Barcola remains highly rated by Luis Enrique and influential advisor Luis Campos, and the French champions have watched this summer’s English market with interest. The word from those briefed on PSG’s thinking is that they would demand around €150m (£127.5m, $171m) to seriously consider a sale.

Publicly, PSG insist Barcola is not for sale. Privately, the ground is shifting.

The winger’s representatives have been working in the background for weeks, sounding out several of Europe’s biggest clubs. According to transfer specialist Graeme Bailey, a departure is becoming an increasingly realistic outcome. Barcola’s current deal runs for less than two more years, and he has so far resisted signing an extension. United’s situation is more complicated. The Old Trafford hierarchy have been made aware of the opportunity and PSG’s invitation to join the race, but any serious move for a left-sided winger hinges on one thing: Marcus Rashford’s future. Sources insist United would only step in for Barcola if they manage to offload Rashford, whose hopes of a permanent switch to Barcelona have faded.

For now, United are preparing to reintegrate the 28-year-old England international into their squad. Until that changes, their interest in Barcola remains theoretical rather than aggressive.

Liverpool’s is not. Barcola fits the profile: young, explosive, technically sharp, with scope to grow into a leading role in a new-look frontline. Former Reds defender Stephen Warnock has already placed him among three major signings he believes Iraola must demand this summer.

He is not the only PSG player on Liverpool’s radar, with the club also linked to another powerful figure in Paris whom Iraola is said to admire and for whom a deal is viewed as logical.
