Bilal Nadir Joins Hamburg from Marseille on Free Transfer
Hamburg have dipped back into the summer market with quiet conviction, landing Moroccan midfielder Bilal Nadir on a free transfer from Olympique Marseille and handing him the number 4 shirt.
The 20-year-old becomes the German club’s second signing of the window after forward Patson Daka, another statement that this rebuild is being built on profile and potential rather than noise. The deal was confirmed on the club’s official X account, with Hamburg announcing that Nadir has signed a long-term contract.
From medical to mountains
Nadir completed his medical before joining the squad at their training camp in Austria, where the formalities were wrapped up in front of club officials. No fanfare, no drama – just a promising midfielder quietly stepping into a new chapter.

Sporting director Claus Costa went further on the footballing side, highlighting the technical and artistic quality of the left-footer, whose 1.86m frame gives him presence as well as poise.
From Nice streets to European nights
Born in Nice on 28 November 2003, Nadir grew up in the academy of his hometown club before making the jump to Marseille in the summer of 2021. That move was supposed to sharpen his edges; by 2023, it had. He broke into the first team and stayed there.
Across all competitions, he played 53 official matches for Marseille, scoring two goals and supplying five assists. Those numbers don’t scream superstar, but the context matters: he earned the trust to feature in big games and tight spaces.
He has already felt the weight of European nights. Nadir made four appearances in the Champions League and two in the Europa League, experience that immediately raises his profile in a Hamburg squad still shaping its identity.
A Moroccan international in waiting
Internationally, Nadir stands on the brink of something bigger. Morocco called him up to the senior squad in March 2025, a clear signal of intent from a national team that has become one of Africa’s standard-bearers on the global stage.
