Bayern Munich Triumphs 3–1 Over Leipzig as Saibari Debuts
Bayern Munich stepped up their pre-season preparations with a 3–1 victory over RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena on Saturday, a tune-up that carried more bite than a routine friendly.
Luis Diaz struck first. The Colombian, newly installed on Bayern’s left, needed only 14 minutes to make his mark, finishing to give the hosts an early lead that settled any lingering summer rust. Bayern controlled the tempo from there and carried that narrow advantage into half-time, sharper in possession and more decisive in the final third.
Leipzig refused to play the supporting role for long. The visitors came out after the interval with more aggression and were rewarded in the 52nd minute when Bryan Gruda hauled them level, punishing Bayern’s lapse and briefly tilting the rhythm of the game.
The response was immediate. Five minutes after conceding, Bayern punched back. Aleksandar Pavlovic threaded a clever pass into space and Nathaniel Brown pounced, restoring the lead with a composed finish that underlined Bayern’s attacking depth.
Then came the first glimpse of a new face. On 71 minutes, Moroccan international Ismael Saibari entered for Tom Bischof, pulling on a Bayern shirt in a match setting for the first time since his summer move from Eindhoven.
He did not waste the audition. Around 10 minutes later, Saibari carved open Leipzig’s defence and laid the ball on for fellow substitute Jamal Musiala, who swept in Bayern’s third. It was exactly the kind of link-up Bayern’s staff will have wanted to see: a new arrival immediately dovetailing with one of the club’s key creative forces.
Musiala’s evening ended in worrying fashion. The playmaker fainted late on and had to leave the field in the 86th minute, with young Senegalese player Bara Ndiaye coming on to see out the closing moments.
For Bayern, the scoreline and the cameos from their emerging and newly signed players offer encouragement with competitive action looming. Borussia Dortmund await in the domestic Super Cup on Saturday, before the Bundesliga campaign opens against Stuttgart on 28 August.
