Barnsley Sign Connor O'Riordan on Loan from Blackburn Rovers

Barnsley have moved to strengthen their back line with the season-long loan signing of Blackburn Rovers defender Connor O'Riordan, securing an option to make the deal permanent next summer.

The 22-year-old centre-back, capped by Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level, knows League One well. He spent the first half of last season with Doncaster, gaining regular minutes and experience in the division before heading back to Ewood Park in January.

On his return to Blackburn, O'Riordan featured six times in all competitions for the Championship side, nudging his way into the first-team picture but not quite establishing a permanent place.

Barnsley now offer him that platform. A clear role, a full campaign, and the possibility of a long-term stay if both parties like what they see.

He could be thrown straight in. The Tykes travel to Leyton Orient on Saturday, and O'Riordan is in line to make his debut in a game that should give an early indication of how quickly he can settle into his new surroundings.
