Journalist Gastón Edul, who has followed Álvarez closely, described it bluntly, saying he is confident “it’s very difficult or almost impossible for Julián to play for Atlético de Madrid next season.”

There is no ambiguity in that stance. No room for interpretation. Atlético are not merely reluctant; they are refusing to sit at the table.

Barcelona, Brunati notes, understand that Atlético are not willing to negotiate under the current conditions. That hasn’t stopped them from trying, but it does define the battlefield: a club that won’t negotiate, and a rival that can’t afford a bidding war yet keeps pushing.
