Barcelona's Transfer Update: Cancelo and Rodri Signings
Barcelona’s busy week in the market is edging towards a double coup, but one half of the story is on hold.

Joao Cancelo has landed in Barcelona and has signed with the club, yet fans are still waiting for the official announcement. According to Victor Navarro, Barça are not expected to confirm the deal for another two to three days.
The exact reason for the delay remains unclear. The player is in town. The agreement is in place. The paperwork, however, is not fully wrapped up. Final details are believed to be pending between Barcelona and Al Hilal, with the club’s hierarchy also fully engaged in preparing Rodri’s high-profile presentation at the Gamper.
What is clear is Cancelo’s determination. The Portuguese full-back has pushed relentlessly to force this move through, even giving up the salary he was due for the remainder of his contract at Al Hilal. For a player who has already worn the Barcelona shirt, the desire to return has been obvious throughout the summer chase.
No Gamper minutes for Cancelo – or Rodri
The knock-on effect of the delay is immediate: Barcelona will not be able to field Joao Cancelo in the Joan Gamper Trophy against Al Ahly. Without the official announcement and registration completed, he stays a spectator.
Rodri, despite being the star of the show off the pitch, is also not expected to feature on it. The Spanish international will be presented to the fans but is not necessarily in line to play in the friendly.
The real target is the start of La Liga. Both Cancelo and Rodri are expected to be ready for Barcelona’s season opener against Elche on August 23, when the talking will finally give way to minutes and decisions.
