Barcelona Signs Belgian Teenager Jesse Bisiwu for 8.5 Million Euros
Barcelona have dipped back into the European talent pool, completing the signing of highly rated Belgian winger Jesse Bisiwu from Club Brugge in a deal reported at 8.5 million euros.
The Catalan club confirmed on Friday that the 18-year-old has signed a long-term contract running until 30 June 2031, tying one of Belgium’s brightest prospects to the Spanish champions for the rest of the decade.
Bisiwu becomes the latest attacking reinforcement of the summer, following the arrivals of Anthony Gordon and Karim Adeyemi. Different profiles, same message: Barcelona are rebuilding their forward line with youth, speed and aggression.
The club’s statement framed Bisiwu as a winger with “a great future ahead”, underlining his pace, strength and dribbling as the traits that convinced them to move early. Born on 22 January 2008, Bisiwu has been a constant presence through Belgium’s youth ranks. His real breakout came at the 2025 UEFA European Under-17 Championship, where he drove Belgium to the semi-finals and earned a place in the tournament’s Best XI. That selection, in a competition loaded with scouts and analysts, marked him out as one to watch beyond his home country.
His club path has been equally sharp. Bisiwu started out at OH Leuven before moving to Club Brugge’s academy in 2020, a switch that placed him in one of Belgium’s most productive youth systems. From there, his progress accelerated.
Over the last two seasons he featured 14 times in the UEFA Youth League, scoring three goals and showing he could carry his direct, fearless style into continental competition. The step into senior football came even earlier. At 15, he debuted in the Belgian Second Division with Club NXT, Brugge’s reserve side, and went on to rack up 36 appearances before Barcelona made their move.
He never broke into the Club Brugge first team, but that lack of top-flight minutes has not deterred the Spanish champions. The plan is clear: Bisiwu will start with Barcelona’s reserve side, learning the rhythms of Spanish football and the demands of the club’s positional play before any talk of a first-team role.
For a teenager whose game is built on raw power and direct running, that adaptation phase will matter. The spaces are smaller at Barcelona, the decisions quicker, the margin for error thinner. If he adjusts, the ceiling is high.
His arrival also extends a small but intriguing Belgian thread at the club. Bisiwu follows Thomas Vermaelen and Fernand Goyvaerts in pulling on the Barcelona shirt, though he does so at a much earlier stage of his career than either of his predecessors.
