Barcelona Secures Rodri Transfer from Manchester City

Barcelona have struck an agreement in principle with Manchester City for the headline transfer of Spain star Rodri, in a deal that shakes up the European summer market and stuffs several former clubs’ coffers along the way.

Villarreal, though, are very much in the money. The Yellow Submarine hosted Rodri for five seasons, including two in their youth ranks and three in the first team, and will take a significant cut of the solidarity payments. They had already profited once when he returned to Atletico in 2018, before City swooped a year later in a big-money deal. Now, without lifting a finger, they stand to benefit again as he heads to Catalonia.

For both Atletico and Villarreal, it is an unexpected cash injection at a crucial moment in the window, the kind of bonus that can unlock one more signing or help close a tricky negotiation.
