Barcelona’s hunt for a new centre-back is not over yet, and Castello Lukeba remains firmly on the list of names under serious consideration.

Deco weighs one more big move

Deco and his recruitment team are still scanning the centre-back market, with one clear brief: find a defender who can live inside Hansi Flick’s aggressive, front-foot system.

Lukeba is not a new idea in the corridors of the club. The Frenchman has been linked to Barcelona for months and his profile continues to tick boxes. He is left-sided, comfortable stepping high, and doesn’t simply retreat and wait for danger to arrive. He goes and meets it.

That matters in Flick’s setup. Barcelona’s defenders are asked to defend huge spaces, hold a high line and recover quickly when transitions break against them. Pace, anticipation and recovery runs are not luxuries here; they are non-negotiable.

For Barcelona, that is the crux of the debate. The squad planning already includes a search for a left-sided centre-back, and names such as Aymeric Laporte have also been linked in recent months. Lukeba fits the sporting idea almost perfectly, yet the financial reality is far less accommodating.

Any deal would require a major investment for a player who would arrive to compete in a defensive unit that is still evolving, rather than walk into a guaranteed, uncontested starting role.
